Joaquin Ramos Chiao is an innovative pianist from Houston, Texas who believes that music is a universal language that expresses emotions which words can't.
In 2024, Joaquin was rewarded the Youngarts Jazz Piano award. He now continues his studies in Jazz Piano at Oberlin College under the tutelage of Grammy-winning pianist Luis Perdomo, and has also studied with the likes of Sullivan Fortner, Dan Wall, Dave Kikoski, Micah Thomas, Paul Cornish, and Bill Cunliffe. Still early in his career, he has shared the bandstand with names such as Tex Allen, Wynton Marsalis, Vincent Gardner, and has opened for Mei Semones. He has also played at a number of renowned venues, such as the Miller Outdoor Theater in Houston.
Joaquin is focused on exploring and connecting with his Latinoamerican culture through the study of Latino-iberian musical idioms.
